Wow! Hard to believe it's already the end of May! If you didn't know, May is #mentalhealthawarenessmonth and as a newbie mental health blogger, I have to say I feel like I dropped the ball a little bit.
I went into the month with the intent of writing and publishing a blog post centered around mental health awareness month, and sharing my personal mental health journey. This, is not that post.
Nor is it any of the other posts I had originally planned on writing for that matter. In fact, this is the ONLY post I've published so far this month, and I aim to publish new posts once a week.
The irony in writing a mental health blog as someone who struggles with mental illness, is that sometimes the very thing I'm trying to write about prevents me from actually getting any writing done.

With that said, and from the title of this post, you can probably guess that anxiety has hit me HARD this month.
If you read my last post, you know that I was recently hypomanic. Well, it's safe to say the hypomania has now left me, but anxiety seems to have come and taken its place.
When I'm hypomanic, it's like I'm operating on a whole different level. I'm able to get more things done, at a faster pace, without getting burnt out as fast (it's not as great as it sounds, check out this post to learn more about what hypomania feels like.)
Now that the hypomania has worn off, I'm having to adjust back down to slightly lower energy levels and pace myself a bit more. This can be pretty frustrating, because I'll feel like I'm in a groove, and then all of a sudden, things aren't grooving anymore.
This is where anxiety comes crashing in, filling my head with all sorts of negative self talk.
Some of my Anxious Thoughts
You’re a burden
You’re annoying
Everyone wishes you would shut up
No one wants you around
You’re making a fool of yourself
You look/sound stupid
They only invited you because they feel obligated to
You talk too much
You should be doing more
You should have a career by now
You’re messing up your kids
You’re inadequate as an adult
You didn’t do anything to earn the life you live
You’re too emotional
You’re letting everyone down
It wouldn't take much for these anxious thoughts to send me into a depressive episode, so I've had to handle myself very carefully this month, in hopes of avoiding that.
The main thing I've started doing, which has had the biggest impact, is journaling daily, and writing a daily affirmation as part of my journaling practice.
I would like to share some of the affirmations I've used so far this month, and some extras I came up with. So without further adieu, here are 15 Affirmations I use to debunk my anxious thoughts.
1. I am not a burden.

2. I deserve to take up space and my presence is enjoyed.
